New works by Jonas Mekas running from 11/13/2008 to 2/21/2009.
The exhibition will present the world premiere of Jonas Mekas' latest 4-monitor video installation entitled: Lithuania and the Collapse of the USSR (2008).
Forces of time, memory, change and human will collide in Mekas' compelling work. The title refers to the historical time when the world watched as Mekas' home country of Lithuania fought for independence from the stronghold of Soviet rule. Comprised of 4 parts with a total running time of 4 hours and 45 minutes, it will be presented in a 4-monitor video installation format offering a chronological overview of Lithuania's birth as an independent nation.
The exhibition at Maya Stendhal Gallery coincides with a major retrospective on Jonas Mekas, which will be held at Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany from Nov. 8th 2008 to March 1st 2009. Through personal archives in the form of documents, photographs, catalogues, texts and film posters, the presentation will survey important periods of the artist's life and career, including New American Cinema, Film-maker's Cinematheque, Film Culture and Anthology Film Archives.
Trackwise Engineer Walter Koehli recently collaborated with Harry Stendhal in compiling a single DVD containing Mekas' Collection Of 40 Shortfilms.
The process required careful re-compression of the original 10 DVD releases to facilitate release on a single dual-layer DVD.

N.Y., N.Y. (1958) by Francis Thompson, original jazz score by Gene Forrell
Restored and produced by Bruce Posner.A pre-digital, surrealistic portrait of New York City from morning to night made by IMAX pioneer Francis Thompson. Over a period of eight years, Thompson shot this highly influential film by painstakingly framing the city through special prisms, lenses and mirrors. Bruce Posner did the work independently, as most of his projects, in conjunction with Film Anthology Archives at Cineric, Inc. for picture and Trackwise at Full House Productions for sound. Posner: "Both NYC labs had known and worked with Francis over the years and were proud to save this wonderful film."
The film will be featured at the 6th MOMA Festival of Preservation on November 14th & 15th. Mr. Posner is scheduled to speak at both screenings in NY to discuss the work done to the films.
